HORSE RIDING

Monte Velho offers its guests two types of horse riding experiences, dressage lessons and trail rides in the country side.

DRESSAGE LESSONS

Taking benefit from the Stud Farm and the Dressage Competition program, Monte Velho offers its guest the possibility of having dressage lessons, regardless of their riding levels. All our horses are from the Lusitano Breed, which is one of the most appropriate for this kind of program for its amazing character, and have different levels of training so they can be assigned according to the riders level. All our instructors are engaged in Dressage competitions with our stud farm horses, and have regular training with the world most renowned trainers. Our lessons can be teached in any of the Portuguese, English, Spanish or French languages depending on the riders preference.

TRAIL RIDES

Our trails take place in Monte Velho and its surroundings in groups no bigger than five riders and a professional guide. The trails are organized in groups with similar riding levels, and are mostly done in walk, but there is always the possibility of some cantering in plain areas if the rider feels comfortable with the horse.

Monte Velho is inserted in a property with over 250ha piece of land. Besides, its surroundings whose landscape, classified as National Ecological Reserve, is absolutely stunning. For the trailrides you can ride for several hours without ever crossing paved roads, going through various lakes and experiencing a typical Alentejos landscape, with its cork trees and holm trees, the various herds of cattle, in an hundred percent natural environment.

FACILITIES

We have excellent infrastructure for horse riding at the highest level, including a Carriere with Olympic dimensions (60mx20m) and two smaller indoor arenas.
